my approach to guiding.

I’m not a healer of other people, nor do I believe that anyone is. I also don’t believe that health is the lack of suffering, nor do I believe that health is being well adjusted to the dominant collective neurosis.

Everything in the cosmos, the ponds outside my back door, the great Salish Sea, the temperate rain forest of the Olympic Mountain Range, the biosphere, our Sun, if left to their own devices, are all moving authentically toward a homeostatic state of dynamic, diverse, complex, adaptable resilience and emergence. This is how I define health.

This same intelligence that is at work in this sentient cosmos, is alive within our bodies and our psyches. Healing the body/mind is a function of aligning with this capacity within each of us, and cultivating the resources to be with and find meaning in the pathos (suffering). Healing also makes way for growth or evolution and the capacity for souls emergence and embodiment.

“Wisdom is the healed expression of suffering.” -Pema Chodron

Growth or evolution is a natural function of being alive. When we fight against our own authenticity and our natural growth process, and there are plenty of good reasons we have learned to do this, then we suffer tremendously, and the world suffers also. We are complex beings, carrying profound potential. As we evolve, we becoming more of ourselves, more complex, which can be scary at first. And, by allowing and turning into our complexity, we find something essential, and something laughably simple.

Healing and growth is not enough, especially in our times. Hidden within each of us is a soul carrying unique gifts that are specifically tailored for the times one is ensouled, that no other soul can express in quite the same way. If any person fails to manifest their soul’s gifts, those gifts are tragically lost forever. These times are desperate, and they desperately require our healing for us to evolve, and for our soul’s gifts to be brought to bear; if not to save a place for ourselves, our offspring, and other sentient creatures who are hosted on this blue green pearl of a planet (which evidence is showing that we have missed the boat of saving it), then proceeding with the dream that we might truly and intimately inhabit our own humanity with all its beauty and potential, to know true intimacy with self, other, and the divine, before we blink out as yet another brilliant experiment our planet has birthed.
